The Rule
While there is no limit to the number of out-of-work books you can sign, once you take a call you must remove your name from all other out-of-work books. The only exception is your home local.
When taking a short call, your name should come off all out-of-work books except the one you are working out of and your home local.
Common Misconception
Many locals will tell you it's okay to leave your name on their out-of-work books while you are working short-term. This is wrong.
Why It Matters
Other brothers and sisters on the out-of-work book with you may not have the same opportunity to work short-term. While you're working and putting money in your pocket, they may be struggling to catch a call to feed their families.
For you to walk in and take a call in front of them — while still on their out-of-work list — is wrong. The members working in the hall are not on the road making a living; it is not their decision to make.
It is an ethical decision, and it's yours and yours alone.
Don't just be a card-carrying member.
Be a Brother.
